The Arvada Economic Development Association works closely with the Arvada Police Department and other partners to address the safety and security concerns of the business community. We’ve compiled a list of important resources to help protect your business. Arvada Police Department 4P Program

This program, available to business property owners and tenants with property owner approval, allows for the Arvada Police Department to enforce trespassing laws on your property without you being present. Please fill out the 4P sign-up form and return it to us at [email protected].

Crime Prevention for Your Business Class

Join the Arvada Police Department and the Arvada Economic Development Association for a free crime prevention class designed to help you protect your business. Topics include current crime trends in Arvada, how to safeguard your business, yourself, and your employees, and police response procedures. In-person classes can be arranged upon request, or view the recorded version.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) is an approach that considers the natural and built environment and how it may promote or deter criminal activity. The Arvada Police Department can conduct a CPTED assessment of your site upon request you can also use the checklist below, provided by the Arvada Police Department, to conduct your own assessment. Surveillance and Alarm System

Does the property have a surveillance camera system?
Can employees quickly access footage from the surveillance system?
Does the property have an alarm system?
Is the alarm system monitored by a professional company?
Are sensors active, effective, and up to date?
Does the alarm system have a backup battery system in case of power failure?
Does the alarm system have a back-up in case of a telephone outage?
Are all employees trained to operate the alarm system?

Are exterior doors solid hardwood, metal or metal-clad?
Do the solid exterior doors have 180 degree peepholes at levels all employees can utilize?
Are all exterior doors well lit?
Are all latch strike plates screwed into the frame with three-inch screws?
Are all deadbolt throws at least one inch long?
Do exterior doors within 40 in of glass, have deadbolts with double cylinders and a key?
Are the double cylinder keys kept separate from the lock?
Do service doors have quality deadbolts?
Are exposed hinges on exterior doors secured with welded pins or security hinges?
Was the building rekeyed the last time an occupant moved in or out?
Are all garage doors kept secure when not actively in use?

Are address numbers at least 4-6 inches tall, illuminated and visible from the street?
Can passers-by, patrons, delivery services, or first responders see your business without obstruction?
Are entryways, sidewalks and delivery areas to the business sufficiently illuminated at night?
At night, are all areas of the business illuminated?
Are utility boxes padlocked or otherwise secured to prevent unauthorized access?
Are shrubs and bushes trimmed to a height of three feet?
Are tree canopies trimmed to a height of at least six feet above the ground?
Do you use hostile vegetation (thorny/spiny plants or ground cover) along fences or below windows?

What to do if there are sharps on your property

What to do if there’s an abandoned encampment on or near your property

If on private property, the property owner is responsible for cleaning up the encampment. There are no timeframes for the disposal of items on private property. Items may be disposed of immediately. While most encampments do not contain anything more than personal belongings, any cleaning/bulk trash company is usually more than willing to come out and remove items. If there are biohazard items, a cleaning company that specializes in biohazard cleaning would need to be contacted. The police department cannot make any specific recommendations for cleaning companies.

If the encampment is on public (city) property, CORE or patrol officers will go out and tag the items for removal. On public property officers have to give at least 24 hours notice before any personal items/encampments can be cleaned up, unless there is fire or a biohazard near water involved then the clean up can be immediate.

Additional support offered by the City for individuals experiencing homelessness

The city has resources/community partners that are at the City Municipal Court every Tuesday at 1:00. Individuals do not have to be involved in court proceedings to take advantage of this resource; they simply have to show up. The resources/community partners change every week, but the Arvada Homeless Navigators and the Arvada Crisis Response Unit are there every week.
