City of Arvada Facilities Closed to Public Effective March 16
The City of Arvada announced the closure of all City facilities to the public effective tomorrow, March 16. This closure includes, but is not limited to, public business and activities at City Hall (including Municipal Court) and all other public City facilities, West Woods and Lake Arbor Golf Clubs and Majestic View Nature Center. This closure extends until March 27. The City will continually evaluate the situation and end or extend the closure as circumstances change.
The City’s focus is the health and wellbeing of residents and members of the City team, and continuing to deliver core services to the community.
The decision to close City facilities to the public is the next step in the City’s ongoing response to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Since January, the City has prepared by sharing infection prevention with the community and with City team members, providing additional training to employees, ensuring adequate supplies of safety materials and updating continuity of service plans to able to scale and adjust to continue to deliver services to the Arvada community.
On Friday, March 13, Arvada City Manager Mark Deven declared a State of Emergency. The declaration gives the City the flexibility it needs to more quickly acquire and apply resources to support residents and partners as the City responds to the spread of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). In addition to the State of Emergency declaration, the City of Arvada continues actions to help limit the spread of the disease and prepare for impacts to the community.
The City will post updated information regarding cancellations and postponements at arvada.org/COVID-19.
For up-to-date information about COVID-19, including social distancing and other infection prevention methods, Arvada residents are encouraged to consult authoritative sources of information, including the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the Center for Disease Control.
Specifically, the City strongly recommends that residents follow CDPHE recommendations to protect themselves from any respiratory infection and help control community spread:
- Employ social distancing methods, including staying at six feet away from other people and avoiding large crowds.
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water.
- Cover nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, throw the tissue away and then wash hands.
- Avoid touching the face including your eyes, nose and mouth. Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Avoid being around anyone with cold- or flu-like symptoms, and if sick, stay home and away from public places.
- Get a flu shot if they have not yet received one.
