Jefferson County Business Resource Center to Close Early 2021

Jefferson County Business Resource Center (Jeffco BRC), announced it will be closing its doors on January 31, 2021. Jeffco BRC has been serving the small business community within Jefferson County for the last 14 years, providing entrepreneurs, start-ups, and established businesses with less than 10 employees a suite of resources, education, and events.

“It has been an honor to lead this organization for over six years and witness the unwavering entrepreneurial spirit triumph over the pitfalls of small business proprietorship.” Amira Watters, Executive Director, Jeffco BRC

Founded in 2006 as a collaborative venture, the current funders are: Jefferson County, City of Arvada, City of Golden, City of Lakewood and the City of Wheat Ridge and the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation. Due to the unforeseen consequences of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, the Jeffco BRC Board of Directors felt it was time to transition the services offered by the center to other
business resource organizations in the area.

“Over the past few years, we’ve had to dip into our reserves in order to provide the quality of services needed by our business community,” according to Board Chair Steve Art. “Impacts to our funding from our partnering municipalities and the County, along with the budgetary restraints due to the pandemic have forced us to close our doors. We are not leaving businesses in our County stranded, we will just be moving inquiries to another source such as the Small Business Development Centers.”

As Jeffco BRC prepares to close its doors at the end of the year, alternative business resource organizations are currently being identified to continue small business support for the community. Information on resources will be widely distributed through local chambers of commerce, business association groups, economic development offices and online through web and social media sites. The website will remain active through February 2021, providing alternative options for small business owners. For questions or more information, please contact Jeffco BRC President and Economic Development Manager and Urban Renewal Executive Director for the City of Wheat Ridge Steve Art: 303-235-2806.
