Latest Plans for I-70/Kipling Interchange Available at November 30th Public Meeting

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is hosting an open house meeting to share information and gather public feedback regarding the latest design for the I-70/Kipling interchange reconstruction.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 30th, 2017, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, 4005 Kipling Street. Community members are invited to attend at their convenience during this time to view open house exhibits and talk with project team staff. No formal presentation is planned.

Following a public meeting held in March 2017, the Diverging Diamond interchange configuration was confirmed as the preferred alternative.  This interchange layout is similar to the recently constructed interchange at US 36 and McCaslin Boulevard in Louisville. However, Kipling Street will remain under the I-70 bridge.  The interchange reconstruction is expected to provide improved operations and substantial safety benefits for all modes of travel.

Analysis of the benefits and impacts of the interchange improvements is underway and will be documented in an Environmental Assessment report in early 2018.  Public input will be considered by CDOT and the Federal Highway Administration prior to finalizing the Environmental Assessment.  Construction is not yet fully funded, but completing this study and preliminary (30%) design will allow the project to quickly move forward when funding is obtained.

To learn more about the proposed interchange project, to submit comments, or to join the project mailing list, visit www.codot.gov/projects/i-70-kipling-interchange or call the project hotline at 720-225-4648.
